Ticking away ... Day 705 ~ I wouldn't sell, sell cellulitis ...

... heck, I wouldn't even want to give it to you.

A week last Saturday, the 22nd September, we were getting ready to go out walking when, suddenly, I started shivering and shaking ... and I decided at 10.00am in the morning that bed was the best place for me.

I was soon fairly delirious apparently and violently sick at one point.

Over the next 24 hours I had a visit from two Emergency GPs [one in the middle of the night it seemed to me but who knows] who put me on oral antibiotics.

By 10.00am the next day, Sunday, the 23rd I was still poorly so I was whisked off to hospital in an ambulance ... and I just didn't care.

I had contracted cellulitis, an infection, in my right leg [the one with the lymphoedema] and I was in hospital until I came out on Wednesday, the 3rd October.

That is eleven days or thereabouts and I was pumped intravenously with antibiotics. The first lot I proved to be allergic to ... so they had to start again.

Well, I don't want to go into too much detail at present. I just wanted to let you know I hadn't deserted you.

As you can see from the photo below [taken and supplied by Jamie] I wasn't quite my usual bouncy self when I came out ... but I'm taking it easy now and feeling better each day.

    1. Thank you eevee. Thankfully it wasn't painful ... it just resulted in me being laid low for ten/eleven days. The worse part was being out of it for the first couple of days ... then they couldn't shift it. Trust me to be allergic to the heavy duty antibiotics.

    1. Thank you Ann. It's hard to believe that it was a fortnight ago today that I started to feel unwell very very quickly. I will try and put a link up to my Facebook page on here so, if it happens again (which it might), people will be able to see a more up to date picture hopefully.

    1. I don't know that I had heard of cellulitis either Barbara. I have now ! As for losing a few pounds you might be right though they did feed me very well and during the last few nights I could be heard rustling the wrapping of some Cadbury's chocolate when the lights went out.

  5. Trust you to be allergic to the antibiotics! Goodness me, what a torrid time of it you must have had. I feel for your nearest & dearest, as being responsible for someone who is severely poorly in the middle of the night is not a good feeling. Not that I'd know, in fact, as I was the one who was severely poorly. lol I've only recently had cellulitis in both legs and I know exactly what you mean about suddenly feeling very rough and retreating to bed. I'm just glad they got you under control and you're feeling better - long may it continue! :)

    1. I was beginning to wonder whether there were going to be any antibiotics that agreed with me ... It's typical if me ! Yes my Beloved's stress level was certainly heightened. In fact I think she was quite frightened for me. When you're ill you don't really care that much but for someone looking on it must be really difficult. It is highly likely that it could happen again but if it does at least they know which drugs do the trick ... eventually.

    2. I'd be willing to bet that you'd see it coming a little earlier, if it were to happen again. I know I would!

    3. In a once-bitten-twice-shy kinda fashion ? Fortunately for me the cellulitis wasn't painful. The worst part was the first 2 or 3 days when I was delirious and feverish.

    1. Thank you Pet. I was aware that I couldn't let friends on here know how I was going on ... and that concerned me. I've mentioned above that I'll try and put a link to my Facebook page which is easier to keep up to date from in hospital.

  11. I had missed you too and wondered what you were up to. But, I assumed you had gone off on some hiking holiday. Wish I had been right. But I am so glad you are on the mend.

    1. I wondered if people might have thought I was on holiday ... well I suppose it was, of sorts. Trouble is, they wouldn't let me out of the 'hotel' Karyn. Thank you ...

    1. Thank you River. I'm not good at not overdoing it ~ I get frustrated. Still I don't want to end up in hospital any sooner than necessary.

  15. Good to hear you're out and about again, Charlie. For some reason your posts didn't show up on my page. I would have missed them if I hadn't looked in to see how you are. I hadn't really heard of cellulitis before, but it sounds very unpleasant (like something you contract in hospital rather than out). Good to hear you're taking care too!

    1. Thank you Neil. I think I was let out early for good behaviour. That ... or they wanted the bed for someone else.

Cellulitis, for me, wasn't too bad though other friends on here and Facebook said they were in great pain with it.

      It's good to be back.
