Shit happens ...

I was on my way for a bloodtest this morning wearing black shoes and blue trousers. I had plenty of time. I started scraping ice off the car when I slipped a little on some 'mud' ... some yellow 'mud'.

I looked under my shoe and could see the muck was well and truly embedded in the grip on the sole.

For some reason I thought I'd better check my other shoe. That one was even worse.

Time was now passing. I had to be at the medical centre for 9am.

There was nothing for it but to change my shoes.

The only ones available were [and I apologise for my fashion faux pas] some [unpolished] brown ones ...

Fashion faux pas ?

I made it to the medical centre for 9.01am and I would have got there slightly earlier if I'd have been able to run.

Fortunately the understanding nurse had switched my appointment with someone who had turned up early.

As though one setback isn't bad enough I got a letter from my publisher today who told me that a revision of one of my books by a couple of friends wouldn't be going ahead this year ... economic reasons.

Shit sometimes happens twice.

With apologies for my use of bad language but if I catch the dog owner who keeps using the small grass triangle near my car as a dog toilet I will likely use more than bad language ... I could resort to violence.

  1. As a dog owner I can safely say that there really is no excuse for leaving your dog's leavings like that. There are so many bags out there on the market for collecting such leavings - not to mention non-specific bags like carriers and bread bags - which I've pressganged into use on occasion. Disgusting behaviour. I think your colour quandary was entirely excusable in the circumstances. So sorry to hear about the book deal falling through - what a blow!

    1. Thank you for understanding why I made such a faux pas Jenny. As for the book deal it was a revision of my 'Pub Walks in Derbyshire' book. Not a blow to me but I should think it is a huge disappointment for Ruth and Graham who have revised it.

  2. OH... Charlie... It looks like we are both having a time with dogs, and dog owners.. and what they deposit on the grass...

We had Just received yellow notices from the Office at our Brand New Apartment Complex about our dogs, and where if we were going to walk them on Property to go. There is a dog station in back of my building where I take Jenny Craig. Well.. I guess some women who live here don't go out there. I live in the Courtyard, and there is newly planted grass that still needs to be tended to and yesterday as I was sitting here saw a little Chihuahua running around out in the Courtyard,, peeing and then I noticed it was off leash also.. And of course that is a no no also... I slipped my shoes on and walked to the Office to complain.. first of all.. that little bugger squatted and his owner never picked up his deposit.. Someone said I should have picked it up and placed it on her Patio.. in front of her door.. LOL.. Bad me.. but I didn't.. So.. I know who the bad person is.. And I made a formal complaint.. Now we will see what happens....

  3. That is one reason why I don't have a dog,I can't think of anything worse than having to pick up dog muck, and some people put in a bag then sling it in the hedge. That makes me really angry, having said that I never worried about shovelling cow muck.Ann

    1. I totally agree with what you say Ann ... I always think cow muck is the cleanest muck there is.

  4. Nothing I hate my than irresponsible dog-owners who let their dogs foul in public areas and don't pick up after them. And I say this as a (former) dog-owner myself.

  6. It's too bad you don;t know where the dog owner lives. You could pick up the poop and deposit it right on his/her front doorstep.

    1. I know someone who did that ... and the dog owner came out and asked my acquaintance what he was doing. He replied that he was dumping dog sh*t on his doorstep in the same way that he [the dog owner] had been dumping dog muck for the past few months. My acquaintance was a big man and there was no argument. I believe the problem with dog muck ended thereafter.

  7. I have to disagree with you on the cow manure. I prefer the smell and texture of horse turds. This is a delightful subject. When my last renters moved we took a sign off the driveway fence that he had painted. "If you let your dog deposit on our lawn I will pick it up and throw it at you." They had 2 dogs themselves. I removed the sign as it wasn't friendly. Then after they left I found 3 piles in the back yard that they missed while moving. Shit happens and they were probably too busy shifting boxes to notice.

    1. Yes, horse muck is ok too. I agree we have sunk to an all-time low but sometimes it happens. I was once gardening and getting down and dirty ... I picked up what I thought was a piece of plasticine ... squeezed it ... and realised it was cat muck. How I mistook plasticine for cat muck I do not know. It taught me a lesson.

  8. Take your pistol with you and shoot the dog if you need to. That is how they do it here in Texas.
Good luck getting the problem resolved. I would be really upset too if I were you. Hang in there my friend!

    1. Thank you Chuck ... I think you may have a point. Trouble is we're not allowed to carry pistols in the UK :-)

  10. Agree wholeheartedly. One reason we don't have a dog either. But owners who can't properly manage theirs are a real bugbear. Now I need advice on what to do about cat owners who allow their cats to use my garden . . .

    1. There is one cat that makes a habit of leaving little dollops of its muck on my lawn. If I had a large lawn it would not be such a problem but I could just about jump from one side of my lawn to the other ... well, I could have done once upon a time ;-)
