Ticking away ... Day 712 ~ just an update ...

I visited the Lymphoedema people at Ashgate Hospice this morning ... as I mentioned once before they wanted me to say that hospices aren't all about, well, you know.

I'm having a new fitted stocking ! A Type 2 ! This is slightly 'tighter' than the one I have and will hopefully compress my leg even more than the one I have on right now. It is also fitted slightly differently at the top of my leg so that I won't have to spend my days pulling up my stocking ~ the problems we have.

I've noticed a few more people staring at my leg of late ~ perhaps I ought to stop wearing shorts. I would ... if I could get my right leg into my trousers and have a bit of room for manoeuvre.

Generally though I feel better today than I have since I came out of hospital. For the first time in ten days I don't have a bit of a bellyache so that's a relief.

I haven't really felt like walking yet either but perhaps over the weekend we'll get out and have a stroll. Walking and pumping those calf muscles is the best thing to compress the lymphoedema in my leg apparently. Best get pumping.

  1. I kinda know what you mean by getting out and walking.. If it weren't for Jenny.. I don't know if I would go out and get the walking we do. That is why if anything ever happened to Jenny... I would go out and get another dog.. They are life savers.. even if they don't know it...

Take Care Charlie.. Your The Best...

    1. Thank you Barbara ~ there's no doubt that walking is very good for us both mentally and physically.

  2. So glad to hear you're feeling better Charlie. I know you'll improve even more when you can resume your beloved walks.
    As for the stockings...is it wrong of me to chuckle over the fact that now a man knows what we women go through? (o;

    1. Feel free to chuckle River ~ you're not the first woman to point this out to me. Before that of course some of my female friends were commenting on my hot flushes.

    3. I don't think I get quite as many hot flushes as I used to do unless I'm just coping with them better.

    1. Thank you Ann ~ we're hoping to go before long. It won't be much of a walk, more of a short stroll. Then we'll do a little more tomorrow.

    1. Thank you Mitch. If the sun would come out that would encourage me.

  5. It's lovely to read the humour within your blogs. Really, I suppose that men would have used to know the problems of sagging hose (I'm picturing you in an old outfit with white stockings on your lower legs ... even like Henry VIII wore). A friend of mine used to tease our Town Crier, just before he would be about to make a proclamation ... would tell him that his stocking seams were crooked.

Hope you can get out for a walk, Charlie. ((Hugs))

  6. I am always wary of my stocking seam particularly as it is so noticeable. Still, if it's not straight, it's not straight. Fingers crossed for a walk. Thank you Pet.

  7. It's a beautiful day down here on the South Coast, so hopefully it has travelled up to you too and you've been able to get out for a brief tramp about. I read somewhere that the body craves long views after a period of being stuck indoors. I can relate to that, as sometimes I feel just like a mole leaving its hole - particularly after a long day on the computer! So people are looking at your legs, eh? Well, I shouldn't worry unless they start giggling and pointing. If that happens, I'd go for the full doublet and hose look. ;)

    1. We were out yesterday and today Jenny though today is the better day weatherwise. I only did a couple of miles on each walk and today I felt a bit tired whilst walking.

As for people looking at my leg it doesn't bother me, it's more amusing than anything. But some people see it and really fix their gaze on it. They're probably trying to work out if it's real or false I should think. Now doublet and hose is of course another option ... and think of the vivid colours I could use.

  8. I can understand trousers wont fit unless they are stretching, I am knitting some for a friend as he can't find any thing that is warm and doesn't look like jogging pants. Unless you know a taylor and have some made just for you. Enjoy your walks.

    1. I wore some walking trousers this morning and they fitted me ... just. I will have to have a shopping expedition in the next week or so. I keep singing the Madness song 'Baggy Trousers' !

  9. What about trying a court jester's outfit? I am catching up on your blogs and not writing today. I am feeling a little frivolous.

    1. I've never been overkeen on bright colours ... for my attire anyway. I love more subdued colours, otherwise a court jester would suit me fine.
