Earlier today I had my first check-up after being put on Abiraterone. Everything seems to be going well except my blood pressure is up and my potassium level is down. This means I'm being given 10mg of Amlodipine as from tomorrow rather than 5mg ... together with all the other tablets of course.
There's not a lot to add really except the doctor and the pharmacist wanted to know how the Abiraterone was affecting me. I said the worse side effect is having to take them at 6.30 whilst half asleep. If I don't drop the top of the Buxton Water bottle because I'm fumbling about I have been known to drop one of the tablets [which I pick up hastily and swallow without thinking too much]. I don't have to take the tablets at 6.30am but I'm supposed to take them an hour before food and I don't fancy sitting around for an hour doing nothing before I have my breakfast.
After talking to the pharmacist about my medication we had to go to the pharmacy to get the extra Amlodipine and then as part of my self-medication involves a hot bacon cob we adjourned to the Cafe @ the Royal ...
It had started to snow as we sat drinking our coffees and eating our cobs but there was still time for the usual photograph to show you how this 62 year old is looking nowadays ...
Thanks to Jamie, of course, for taking me there and having to put up with his old Dad ... it is much appreciated Jamie.
Finally, I'd like to say 'hello' to Hayley's Grandma ... I sometimes wonder whether I'm going on a bit too much about the state of my health but when I learn that Hayley reads these blogs to her Grandma because she likes to know what someone else is going through too ... well, it makes it all worthwhile.
Give your Grandma a hug and a kiss from me Hayley.
Very glad to hear that, on the whole, things are quite good at the moment. An increase in the dosage of Amlodipine is a nuisance, of course, I would consider increasing the dosage of hotbaconcob to two , to compensate :-))
ReplyDeleteStill looking pretty damned healthy to me!!
Thanks Mitch ~ yes, I think you may have a point about the bacon cobs ;-)
DeleteYes must agree with Mitchy you are looking good Charlie,I see you have some snow today,I'm hoping we have seen the last of it.Hope it was a bacon cob Charlie and not an actual Cob!! Ann
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann. Yes, we've had some more snow though it is supposed to turn to rain any time now. I can confirm it was a cob ... and not a Cob. It was a very tasty cob too.
DeleteYou're looking as pink as a person stood in a snowy car park could be expected to look, Charlie! lol I agree that the ratio of bacon to Amlodipine requires review. I can also understand how annoying it is to have to take pills at 6.30a.m. It's annoying enough to have to take them at 7a.m., so that I can move around by 7.30!
ReplyDeleteThis morning I took the pills at 6.30 and then couldn't get back to sleep ... another alarm went at 7.30 and *then* I fell asleep for half an hour.
DeleteGreat Photo Charlie... And I'm so glad to hear your doing much better. Yay... And really Charlie.. I also love reading about your trials and tribulations..... Now if only I can get going with my blog.. Since we have been banned from Multiply,,, I have almost given up on here.. Till some guy over in England..... writes something and makes me feel I should just do it... LOL..
ReplyDeleteTake Care Charlie,, Your the Best...
Come on Barbara ... you can do it :-)
DeleteI'm so glad that you provided an up-date, Charlie. I was trying to figure out how to ask you how you were doing!
ReplyDeleteI can sympathize with you regarding handling water bottles early in the morning, for meds. Several years ago I had to take a pill at five a.m. ... which meant setting the alarm clock and hoping that the water bottle would not escape from me. Since I barely had one eye open at the time, if a pill had gone missing I'm not sure if I'd have been able to find it ... so kudos to you, for having two eyes operational!
They do say that everything is better with bacon ...
Well the bacon cob certainly fills a yawning gap created by anxiety I think ... and whilst both eyes are operational I wouldn't say they are coordinated at that time of the morning.
DeleteAnd what a charming devil you look too. You don't look 62 either, so it must be all those years of tromping through fields and over the hills that make you still look robust. I don't think you go on too much about your health either. I like to know how you are doing, and feel blessed that you are willing to share your journey. Thank you for being so open.
ReplyDeleteYou've obviously identified that hint of mischief Karyn ;-)
DeleteThank you for the nice comment about that age ... I'm not sure what it is. Possibly the fact that my face has fattened over the years means the wrinkles don't show. On Blogger, Facebook and Twitter I have had only positive feedback and comments which are, of course, much appreciated.
Good to hear you are still buzzing around Charlie. Like the photo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff. I'm just hoping I don't buzz off just yet ... ;-)
DeleteBlogger still doesn't notify me of your blogs, so I have to remember to look in from time to time. It's that time. All still sounding positive, Charlie. I have to say, I got so fed up with meds and water, etc (which always seemed to be in different rooms, including from me) that I used to just swallow everything without a drink and catch up on liquid later. But I wouldn't be able to do that at 6.30! I love it when there is a bacon cob or equivalent in the mix; mine was baked potato 'and don't forget to add extra butter'! Hope your cafe@Royal is as good as my NHS cafe; I used to rather enjoy going in there too. Anyway, keep up the good work - both the going well and the blogging.
ReplyDeleteYou should be able to get an email notification Neil as well as following me ... however, thank you for your good wishes.
